Hypnotherapy for Trauma

Hypnotherapy for trauma helps you gently process distressing events so you can heal your mind and move forward with hope and positivity.

When we experience something that is very distressing or frightening, our sense of safety in the world can be shattered. You might have an overwhelming feeling that something bad is going to happen, events might play out uncontrollably in your mind, you might dissociate (space out and feel detached from your body) or you might experience panic attacks. These reactions to trauma can feel incredibly scary and feelings of helplessness, fear and isolation are all too common.

In normal circumstances, everything we sense passes through both hemispheres of the brain to be processed and then stored in our memory. When we experience trauma, however, neuroscience research has shown that the right hemisphere of the brain becomes overactive, preventing the normal processing of a situation. This explains why the anxieties and triggers around a traumatic experience are on almost constant alert.

To help people work through these traumatic experiences, we must help facilitate the internal processing mechanism so the distressing event can be absorbed in the normal way.

I am trained in a powerful form of eye movement therapy known as the BLAST Technique®. It’s a refined form of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) that uses precise bi-lateral movements with a light pen (which activates both hemispheres of the brain). Along with specific suggestions to the client, the BLAST Technique® helps reprocess the traumatic event so the client understands and remembers what happened but it no longer has any physical or emotional response.

The BLAST Technique® was created in 2008 by leading UK psychotherapist, Nick Davies, in order to help resolve trauma quickly and efficiently, allowing clients to live life with a feeling of renewed hope and positivity.

Other therapies that help with resolving trauma are EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) which is a form of acupressure (tapping on various points on the body) that helps to relieve emotional and physical pain and the Rewind Technique which again, helps to unhook the painful emotions from the traumatic experience.

I am a fully certified EFT Practitioner.
